Dive into the album, “In My Room” (Jan 2024)

After the release of her first EP, “In Technicolor” (July 2022), Fleur Electra speaks on themes of facade, cyclical rebirth, and detrimental fantasy in her first full length album, “In My Room” (Jan 2024).

“I had been working on this record for about a year when I lost nearly everything due to an unexpected house fire last December (the album artwork is a picture I took of my bedroom after the fire was put out). It was one of my biggest fears come true.. but I was so incredibly lucky to be able to retrieve my laptop which had this album on it, about 75% finished. I was even luckier when a very kind human was able to recover the damaged hard drive. I couldn’t believe it. So I decided to call this album, “In My Room”, because it was entirely written and recorded in my old bedroom, which for so long was such a safe space for me.

During the writing of this album, I was going through a pretty dark time, and it seemed impossible to finish. Sometimes it felt like it was keeping me stuck in the past and low-key making me miserable, but it also seemed like the only way forward. While life was challenging after the fire, it strangely gave me the push I needed to be able to zero in on finishing these songs. At the time it felt like the only tangible thing I had from my life before and I needed to see it through.

So, all in all, this started as a breakup album. But it evolved into a reflection on birth and death; good things beginning, only to end. It’s also about forgiveness, understanding and vulnerability. I hope you find some of your own meaning and connection to these songs.”
